As the process of incorporating boudoir into my work began I started receiving a lot of questions about what exactly it was. I think it’s an easy thing to misunderstand and something that I recognize is a foreign concept to many. So, I wanted to take the time to discuss with you here what exactly boudoir is and what makes my work a little bit different than a typical boudoir photographer.
Boudoir by definition: a lady’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room.
So, logically, that means boudoir photography is?
You got it! Photography in the bedroom.
They are photos that you have made either for a significant other or for yourself. A reminder of your sensuality and often it serves as an awakening of that part of you.
Now, the big thing you may realize is that a lot of my images aren’t taken in a bedroom at all.
They may not even seem “sexy” to you right off the bat.
That, my friends, is what we’re really here to talk about.
The majority of boudoir photographers out there are doing one thing. They are taking images of women in sexy poses in hotel rooms or studios. They have a set of poses that they do with every woman, possibly even a wardrobe that you can choose from, and heavy make-up and re-touching services. Your experience begins that day and ends that day.
I am in no way trying to convince you to book me over another photographer by sharing my story. I am in full belief that you are supposed to book the experience that you prefer. Some of us, want that anonymous, made up, and fantasy-like experience. That’s fine!
But, that’s not what I do.
Your session with me is a journey. We begin with a consultation where I get to know you and what you want out of the session. We talk about what you love about your body, what you’re insecure about, what to wear, and where we’ll shoot.
This time gives me the chance to really get to know you. To figure out what your essence is and when you feel the best about yourself.
I do not have a studio. I shoot in the homes of my clients, in fields, in artist’s studios, and even hotels if that represents you fully.
I will pose you based on the parts of your body that you want to embrace and the ones that you are worried about. I will make you laugh at how goofy I am. We will dance, shake our hair around, and we will HAVE FUN!
The goal isn’t to create sensual images.
It’s to create images that are sexy because they are fully you!
It’s the kind of sexy that only the people closest to you get to see.
That piece of you that isn’t revealed easily and you may not even know exists.
On a further note: These images are created for the empowerment of women. They are not intended to be viewed in a degrading manner or for there to be a separation of the lovely person behind the body.
These are for you to hold onto, to cherish this period of your life, and to know that you are everything you were meant to be at this time.
To look at yourself and say, “I’m more than enough.”
