The Photo.

This is the photo I want to be remembered by.
You know how our parents and our grandparents all have the one photo that we hold in our memories of what they looked like when they were young?
I can close my eyes and see my mother’s now.
She’s sitting at a picnic table, hands close to her mouth, looking to the side and smiling her giant smile. Her hair has a bow in it and she’s beautiful.

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

If only one photo of me were to emerge in thirty years.
One image to serve as a reminder of who I was during this period of my life, I’d want this to be it.

There are certainly more flattering photos of me.
More curated, better positioned, with more flattering lighting.
There are quite frankly hundreds of those.

But this one, this one is real.
This one, where I’m fumbling to take a photo of myself.
To have some sort of reminder that I was once in paradise.

This one, where I am one with the curves of my stomach and the lack of tan on my skin.
This is the photo I want to be remembered by.

I want to remember that I’ve felt freedom, excitement, and adventure.
All of which weren’t living in Nicaragua,
Rather, they were locked inside of myself all along.

with love,

This is the best and I LOVE it. Not nearly as much as I love you ! I commit right at this moment to love myself , to see the beauty I possess just as others see it and to start being “alive” again. You have no idea how powerful this post is for me. And I think you have no idea of how beautiful you are…You are in my heart every second of the day. I love you, Mom
