You know I’m all about mixing things up. When we were getting married, Kyle and I literally took every tradition in the wedding experience and made sure it fit us as individuals. Sometimes that meant taking it out all together, just changing it up a bit, changing it out for something else, or keeping it the same. But, at the end of the day we knew we were getting a wedding that in every single aspect represented our story and who we were as a couple.
So, you know I’m going to recommend something a little different for your food options. Here are my top five picks for your reception ‘meal.’
1.A Dessert Reception! {The reason I put ‘meal’ in quotations.}
I love when brides do a dessert reception. Especially if they happen to be having an evening wedding. It will save you some cash while still being classy and elegant! Here are a few specific ideas I found this morning.
The pie reception.
The ice cream parlor reception.
The pretty in pink dessert reception.
The vintage french bakery reception. (my fav.)
2. Food Truck Catering!
Did you know that most major cities have food trucks popping up everywhere. If you opt for a food truck to cater your wedding, you have a wide variety of options. From hamburgers, to tacos, to hawaiin, to thai food.
3. Sushi!
My favorite food. A fun way to include a little adventure into your reception. You can even have some safe options for your not so adventurous friends/family.
4. Picnic Reception.
This goes along with the wedding theme I shared last week. It also fits what me and Kyle did for our reception. It’s great if you are getting married in August in the heat (sorry everyone) and you don’t want to serve anything too heavy, but still feed everyone well.
5. Barbeque.
For those of us in the south, this isn’t so unusual. But, the way to keep it unique is in the details! Do you send everyone home with a jar of personalized bbq sauce, do you and your boo like different types of bbq (include them both with a note letting your guests know), or maybe you focus on the decorational details.
with love and happy planning,
Sarajane.
